In the outskirt of Kalimpong town ,hardly 6k.m away , a sleepy village known as ECHHEY,at a height of 4600 ft. which once ; a century and a half year ago in year 1880, was well known for hermitages retreat centers now in the very sacred soil ,called DHARDO RESORTis a dream come true for all those who wish to feel the difference in a freshly, serene rural environment and to some for seeking solace in spiritual practice in this truly blessed historical location .
ACCOMMODATION
- Has facility for lodging 8 persons at a time beside one single room for solitary meditation in the premises.
- Bedroom having wall to wall carpeting with attached shower and toilet.
- Ground floor, an open hall for sitting /dining area has an art gallery and small library.
- A thatched bamboo hut (gazebo) to sit , chat and enjoy tea drinks.
- A tiny private space for sitting for two surrounded by Japanese bamboo named Gossip corner while you sip drink and talk in afternoons.
- Stone sitting Corner for 4 persons.
- Spiritual Corner with Buddhist stupa with rocks to sit for meditation.
- Whispering bamboo corner to sit 8 persons on bamboo stools, surrounded by Buddhist Mantras carved/written on natural bamboos and trees.
- Garden umbrellas with sitting on open air verandah and in the lawn to enjoy morning and afternoon tea and snacks.
- Can book for open air garden parties for more than 100 persons at a time.
OTHER INTEREST :
- An Art Gallery of realistic paintings, modern/abstract painting on woods/bamboos and sketch/cartoons located in the complex itself.
- A landscape (model) showing the renown meditators of the past .
- Tourist can buy some Dhardo Retreat made handicrafts as souvenirs.
- A three foot wide footpath extends all around the compound for walking and jogging is illuminated at night with back up power supply.
- Guest can see some old Thangkas of 35 Buddhas of confession and a unique old altar personal handiwork of late speech incarnation Shabdrungs Ngawang Namgyal (erstwhile religious/temporal king of Bhutan );can also view some old traditional local artifacts collection.

Sight seeing and trekking :-
A package trip of three days, one day each on different locations for sight seeing around the important tourist spots of Kalimpong and its surrounding areas and short trekking one day each for three days for those interested will be provided by the DHARDO RETREAT with guides on demand.

The Dhardo retreat is located at Echhey, 13.5 mile on the highway Reshi road 6 k.m from Kalimpong town towards Algarah and is around 68 k.m from Siliguri 2 hrs; 82k.m from NJP railway station 2.45 hrs and 85 k.m from Bagdogra airport 3 hrs.
